Last night’s match against Slovan Bratislava turned out to be an important victory for AC Milan, yet it also further exposed some issues with the squad.

As Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) report this morning, the three points certainly help the push for a top eight spot in the Champions League, but Paulo Fonseca’s team also struggled against the ‘Cinderella’ of the competition.

There is a structural problem with the team and some transfer business could help even, if it is not yet clear whether the club will intervene in January or not. Fonseca also seemed taken aback by the defensive performance and tried to explain it this way: “It’s a question of reading, not of attitude.”

The awareness of the issue seems to be there as the players and the coach continue to speak about it, but the time for words is over. Now we need concrete and sustainable solutions otherwise Milan will remain a roller coaster.

Who could push to intervene? Senior Advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who spoke about the possibility of doing some January business during an interview he did before the game.

“We’ll see what happens from today onwards in the transfer window. We’re always keeping an eye open to see if we can bring something to Milan, we’re always in dialogue with our coach to see if there’s something that’s needed or not,” he said.

The Swede’s statements suggest a possibility, after previously suggesting no moves will be made. Reinforcements are needed, especially in midfield, but from that point of view the return of Ismael Bennacer should help things given Youssouf Fofana and Tijjani Reijnders are working overtime.
