Marco Giampaolo facing four dilemmas ahead of new Milan season

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan’s 2019-20 campaign gets underway on Sunday against Udinese, but Marco Giampaolo is still facing a number of dilemmas.

That is according to Friday’s edition of Tuttosport, which focuses on the current state of the Rossoneri squad ten days before the end of the transfer window.

The first issue mentioned is that of Krzysztof Piatek. He is at the moment a certainty in the starting XI, however that Poland international struggled in preseason and towards then end of the 2018-19 campaign.

Getting the former Genoa man back into form is absolutely vital for the season ahead, but it is worth noting that at the moment he has no competition.

Secondly is the trequartista position which is expected to be occupied by Suso to start the season.

In the summer friendlies the Spaniard played well, however it will be up to him to continue that level of performance with Giacomo Bonaventura and Hakan Calhanoglu knocking on the door.

Third on the list of ‘issues’ is finding a consistent partner for Alessio Romagnoli.

At the moment it appears that Mateo Musacchio will start alongside the Milan captain as Giampaolo has had admitted that the pairing gives ‘more assurances’.

However, Mattia Caldara – once back to full fitness – and Leo Duarte will provide adequate competition should Musacchio not be up to the task.

Finally, Giampaolo will be left picking between Lucas Biglia and Ismael Bennacer in the early part of the season.

The Argentine has actually only started two games in 2019 but Bennacer has spent less time with the group due to his African Cup of Nations commitments.
