Tuttosport: Milan consider triggering €20m amid high risk of centre-back auction

By Isak Möller -

In addition to the attack, Milan are also expected to reinforce the defence this summer as Simon Kjaer is expected to leave the club. A youngster has ended up on their radar and due to the high risk of an action, the Rossoneri could trigger the release clause.

Kjaer’s contract will expire in the summer and Milan have no intention of renewing the deal. As such, also considering the injury struggles of Pierre Kalulu, the Rossoneri will need to reinforce the defence this summer. In addition to a ‘ready’ player, they could also sign one for the future.

According to Tuttosport, as cited by Radio Rossonera, the player for the future could be Boca Juniors’ Aaron Anselmino. The 18-year-old has a release clause of €20m and has attracted the interest of Everton as well as Man Utd. With this in mind, Milan could move faster than planned.

Geoffrey Moncada and Antonio D’Ottavio are evaluating the situation but could decide to trigger the release clause at the start of the summer, thus avoiding any auction for the player. Everything will depend on the budget, though, so there are still a few loose ends.

It has previously been reported that the scout who recommended Enzo Fernandez to Milan is the one who has vouched for Anselmino as well. That in itself says a lot.

  1. I’d rather get Calafiori, ideal person for Milan. Could have had him last year for nothing but can fix our mistake this year.

    1. Each time I watch Calafiori it surprises me how we didn’t push for him considering we actually identified him for the defence. Right now I don’t see him going for less than £20m but the truth is that he could just as well have been a miss had we signed him so I don’t go about blaming any director for not signing anyone because for us all, hindsight is bliss.

    2. The problem is what signal does this send the defenders in our primavera, Simic is just as good as this guy and he does not cost a transfer fee, concentration on home grown players is really lacking at Milanello, the ‘grass is greener on the other side policy’, will eventually cost us Simic, Zeroli and Camarda.

Furlani and Moncada will be long gone and we will be left average players in our squad.

I really hope Ibra is involved heavily as the lack of footy knowledge Cardinal has he may think Mincada’s word is ‘gospel’

      1. Exact same thing I said the other day, it isn’t looking too good for any youth player and no sensible youth player should be signing with us because the future doesn’t look bright with Pioli requesting signings anyhow.
We have a left back crisis instead of Pioli to give the young players a chance, he’d rather play a senior player out of position.

    3. I won’t buy a CB but if have to then would be Calafiori. That boy seems to have it all albeit I don’t know his personality well he looks so strong on the pitch. Reminds me of Sergio Ramos

  2. Anybody knows how Anselmino rates compared to his teammate Nicolas Valentini? I don’t know either but I heard good words for him, even better than for Anselmino.
