GdS: €100m available to build the ‘new Milan’ – Maldini and Massara highlight five targets

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan’s owners have made a large sum of money available for the summer transfer window as Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara carefully plan their additions.

According to what La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) are reporting, Milan’s owners Elliott Management are ready to invest €100m in the summer mercato with the aim to strengthen each department of the squad to increase the level of quality.

The first two names on the wish list are currently at the same club in Sven Botman and Renato Sanches of Lille. Milan have had contacts for some time with the former who would like to join having declined offers from the Premier League and would replace Alessio Romagnoli, while for the latter work must still be done with his agent Jorge Mendes to find an agreement on terms.

Looking at the attack, Gianluca Scamacca of Sassuolo is the man that Maldini and Massara want. Zlatan Ibrahimovic seems to be oriented towards retiring at the end of the season, so the young Italian would therefore be a substitute with potential to grow alongside Olivier Giroud.

Then there are two Belgians in the club’s sights in Divock Origi of Liverpool and Charles De Ketelaere of Club Brugge.

  1. Kamara – free agent to replace kessie
Dybala- free agent to replace diaz
Origi- free agent to replace ibra
    Botman-€35M
    Charles/noa lang-€25M
    Scamacca-€35 to alternate with Giroud

Invest the change on dybala salary.

    1. Unfortunately the math doesn’t add up:
(Assuming 10% minimum agent fee which will be much higher for free transfers and rumoured/expected realistic salaries)
Kamara – 4 million euro salary + 400k agent fee
Dybala- 10-12 million euro salary + 1m-1.2m agent fee
Origi- 4 million euro salary + 400k agent fee
      Botman-€35M + 2 million euro salary + 200k agent fee
      Charles/noa lang-€25M + 2 million euro salary + 200k agent fee
Scamacca-€35 to alternate with Giroud + 2 million euro salary + 200k agent fee

Frankly, I think most of these numbers are too low but even assuming they are correct, you are over 115 million euros which. Even with the tax breaks the budget is exceeded. I am not disagreeing with your list but merely want to continue to point out that many people commenting think free transfers and transfer fees are all that count towards a budget but in reality, there are other costs associated with transfers beyond that which need to be factored.

  2. Scenario 1: 4-3-1-2
In: Belotti, Dybala, De Katelaere, Pobega, Adli, Castrovili/Frattesi, Parisi/Cambiaso.
Out: Diaz, Sale (or Krunic), Messias, Baka, Ballo, (Zlatan?)
ST/SS/CF: Il Gallo, Leao, Rebic, Girou/(Zlatan?)
    AMC: Dybala, De Kat
MC/DMC: Tonali, Benna, Pobega, Castro, Adli, Sale/Krunic

    Scenario 2:
In: Belotti, Scamacca/Radpadori, Berardi, Dybala, de Katelaere, Frattesi/Castro, Adli, Pobega, Cambiasso/Parisi
Out: Diaz, Messias, Baka, Sale/Krunic, Ballo, (Zlatan?)

    Ke$$ie not even mentioned.
    Zlatan may retire.
If Florenzi is not redeemed, then Bellanova.
If Alessio leaves, we have Tomo, Kalulu, Kjaer, Gabbia. Dunno if Botman is needed.
I am not familiar of other leagues, so I have no recommendations, apart deKataere. Italians registered: checked!

Just my dream transfer window (like FM) 😆 I am not an expert, so feel free to have different perspectives and opinions!

  3. Should be enough. Origi Free Transfer,Botman 35m euro,Asensio 25m euro ( if he choose AC Milan over EPL club’),Charles deketelare 35m euro,Cambiasso/parisi 5m euro ( Theo back up) . We don’t need Renato since we have 5 player can play double pivot like tonali, bennacer, pobega, adili, krunic ( i believe tonali – pobega can form good double pivot) . We can sell unused player to get fund too like caldara, castilejo, ballo Toure and get money from our loan player like hauge and Duarte

  4. I’ll believe it when I see it. I honestly don’t think our actual spend will exceed 60-70m this summer. Maybe plus ~15-20m given some sales, like Caldara and Hauge, etc., but it’s more than likely the initial 60-70 includes these.

  5. Unfortunately 100M is not enough to buy Botman, Sanches, and Scamacca – let alone anyone else. We must be realistic. Is it 100M on transfers or 100M on transfers AND salary?? Huge difference. I would love De Keketelare – but I doubt Maldini gets him as we are very high on Adli – who plays ACM – and we will likely get outbid by an EPL club. Also IMO – I do not think Scamacca is worth 40M. Until Ibra retires we are not spending big on a striker. So we try Origi for free for a year (a player who knows our press system and who doesn’t need to start every game) and after Ibra retires we can spend properly on a you g dynamic striker. Therefore, In light of our situation I would focus spending the $$ on the following positions/players – all IMO.

    CB – Botman – 30-35M
    DM – Kamara – FREE
    Striker – Origi – FREE
    RW – Lang – 25M

Rest of the $$ I would focus on a back up to Theo and possibly another RB to backup or even start over Calabria – as Kalulu should focus on CB – where he is shining.

I also do not think it’s realistic to expect us to sign Dybala – He wants 10-12M a season. We will not pay that. Same with Sanches. He wants 5.5M – which would make him highest paid on the team – we will not do that either. Ibra was the exception not the rule IMO. Perhaps we pick up another player on loan w option – but I think realistically that is about it.

  6. i know this is unpopular opinion, but what if we offload saeles, krunic and rebic from the team. all 3 can give us good amount of money, and they not performing that well right now
