Albertini discusses contract renewals under new Milan ownership: “It’s not easy”

AC Milan, in addition to strengthening the squad with signings, also want to lock down their most important players. Negotiations are ongoing with several agents for contract renewal, a key point as per Demetrio Albertini.

The likes of Rafael Leao, Pierre Kalulu, Sandro Tonali, Ismael Bennacer and more are expected to get new contracts in the near future. Some of the negotiations, of course, are more time sensitive than others and work is underway.

Speaking to Gazzetta Dello Sport, as cited by MilanNews, Milan legend Albertini shared his thoughts on the contract renewals amid the takeover of RedBird. Renewing the stars would be a perfect start for the American firm.

“Renewals? It’s certainly an excellent starting point for continuing what already is a successful project. However, I speak as an observer, I know well that other evaluations come into play in the negotiations for renewals. These days, it’s not easy to avoid drama when the expiration is near.

“A player who wins the Scudetto sees his value increase, and consequently his interests grow in the negotiation phase. In the end, it’s a question of budget: how much will the new owners invest in contract renewals?” he concluded.

It remains to be seen what the outcome of the contract negotiations will be, but it’s clear that Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara are working hard on the matter. More news is expected in the coming weeks, hopefully of positive nature.
