MN: Allegri handed blow as Leao will definitely miss clash against Lecce

Massimiliano Allegri will have to do without his star Rafael Leao for the game against Lecce too, as was confirmed by a report this morning.

Leao sustained an injury in Milan’s 2-0 win against Bari almost two weeks ago, shortly after scoring the opener, and he has been in recovery since. While there was a slight hope of having him available against Lecce this Friday, that hope has now been crushed.

According to Antonio Vitiello, following evaluations by the medical staff at Milanello in these hours, Milan have decided not to risk Leao. In short, he won’t be available against Lecce and the goal is now to have him back against Bologna after the break.

Lack of depth in attack

As a result of Leao’s absence, the depth up front will continue to be lacking. Allegri only has Santiago Gimenez, Christian Pulisic and Samuel Chukwueze available for the attacking roles, though you perhaps count Alexis Saelemaekers as well.

It could get even worse, though, as Chukwueze is being linked with a move to Fulham. They are currently in talks with Milan over a permanent transfer and subsequently, Allegri could think twice about using him this Friday (given the risk for an injury).

When you also consider the struggles that Milan experienced in the defeat against Cremonese, the timing couldn’t have been any worse with Leao’s injury.

  1. Pretty sure this was always the plan to save Leao until a more vital game. Although one would argue that after the way we played the first game, every week is vital.

  2. Another loss as usual.I have predicted Milan before the seria A league started that what happened last year will still remain cos when you are selling a sub standard player you need to upgrade to standard players but instead of them to buy more quality players they will go and buy garbage, mediocre, inexperienced worst players. All in the name of making Profit.Atleast they should learn from Inter,Napoli,Roma,Atlanta.Look at what they are doing.Although am no longer watching Milan since last year because I knew they will never learn. If you are a Milan fans, stop waisting your time on them cos they will never progress
