Ambrosini believes Milan squad ‘always struggles’ against defensive teams

AC Milan came away with one point from their encounter with Roma last night and it’s two points dropped for the Rossoneri. Once again, they struggled to break down a defensive team, as highlighted by Massimo Ambrosini.

The Rossoneri controlled most of the game (especially in the first half) and did well in the first phase. However, they struggled to create chances and only amassed one shot on target the entire game, which was the equaliser of course.

Speaking to DAZN after the game, as cited by MilanNews, Milan legend Massimo Ambrosini shared his thoughts. He believes that Roma played just the game they wanted to, while the Rossoneri struggled to express themselves.

“At the beginning of the match, I would have said that one point would have been better for Roma, now it’s better for Milan given how I panned out. A match that was broken up by many injuries. Milan always struggles when they find closed and defensive teams, failing to express themselves with quick transitions. Roma played an excellent game anyway,” he stated.

Milan will take on Cremonese next and it’s indeed a must-win for the Rossoneri, who then will face Lazio at the weekend. They will need all the points they can get in order to have a chance of finishing in the top four.

  1. First we need to analyse the situation well. This has been happening over the past 3 years.
Is it that we don’t have the crop of players that can break down choked up defences? Or smaller team who choke up defences do it intentionally just to prove or share points with Milan ?
How are Napoli , inter, Juve doing it when it come to choke up defences ?
If its d apt crop of players we don’t have we better look for one or two players who can help break defences. Napoli players shoot better and that’s one of the things helping them. We need one or two players with excellent shooting accuracy who can score and not necessarily a dribbler like Leao. Another way is to train how to hold the ball inside 18 for potential penalties. Once we can score one or two goals, the opponent will attach us and by so doing create spaces.

    1. “How are Napoli , inter, Juve doing it when it come to choke up defences ?”

They have attacking plans they follow. They also have creative players. Milan has neither. Unless throwing the ball to Leao and pray for a miracle counts as an attacking plan.

  2. You see, that is the reason we find ourselves here today… get players who can shoot and win us matches. Always adopting the easy approach, individual instead of team based approach.

Napoli, Inter, they have defined ways of playing and not necessarily depend on individuals to win them matches.

When teams choke up their defence against us, it is in fact a systemic approach to unlock their defence drawing players out of positions through specific passing methods. The CM, AM and the wingers have specific duties in drawing their players out of positions for us to exploit.

Look, we have no coach, that’s the plain truth. We struggle against every style of play, be it a defensive or offensive minded team.

We aren’t going anywhere if we continue like this honestly, it’s painful.
