Massimo Ambrosini was present for DAZN’s broadcast of Atalanta-Milan last night and after the final whistle, he shared the view of most Rossoneri fans. Indeed, the feeling is that they didn’t give their all to win the game.
It was a promising first half for Milan, creating some good chances and finding the equaliser through Alvaro Morata. Only two shots on target, but they were at least able to break through Atalanta’s first block several times.
In the second half, however, they had zero shots on target and this is something Ambrosini discussed on DAZN (via MilanNews). He stated that it’s difficult to take any positives from the game, especially since the game was there for the taking at one point.
“When you lose it’s hard to find positives. We need to understand if in that second half, in a balanced situation, he [Fonseca] had the feeling that the team didn’t push forward properly. In the first half, Atalanta gave the feeling that they could suffer. Milan were in the game, but they didn’t take that extra step to try to win it with conviction,” he stated.
Paulo Fonseca was very focused on blaming the referees after the game, but even he admitted that they failed to find the forwards in the second half. The most annoying thing, however, is that the mindset to push forward seemed to be missing.

Didn’t you all learn that he is always doing/thinking the exact opposite of what he is telling during pres conferences? It’s a silly old trick that bad coaches somehow still believe works in the psychological game. The moment he said we will not settle for a draw, it was blatantly transparent that this would be exactly what we’ll be aiming for. I’m pretty sure even Bonera would look like a mastermind in a tactical battle with our coach who even looks like a villain in a cartoon movie. What we saw in the second half was expected. I am surprised it took Atalanta this long to score, tbh, I mean we brought on RLC in place of Pulisic which is equal to receiving a red card.
The team lacks conviction. They have no idea what they should do off the ball when in possession which always result in back passes. What surprises me is that the coach doesn’t seem to have answers to these problems which have been persisting since the season started…And this very situation makes Leao near indispensable with all his weaknesses. It’s almost as if Pioli never left. Fonseca will keep pulling a rabbit out of the hat (lose a few, win one when things get critical) and in no time the season will be wasted. UCL is at risk and we know what that means for the mercato.
We win a few games and people get hyped (idk what other word to use) and then reality hits and the high is gone and they curse everyone in their path..
Rinse, repeat.
For there is an unwritten rule in football, once a third of the season is pass, where you are is where you’ll stay.
Fonseca, regardless how he finish the season, shouldn’t stay. And the management also needs spring cleaning.
Hope cardi boi puts his big boy pants on and hires competent people end of season.
But hey, there is a silver lining. At lead we didn’t implode like Roma
“For there is an unwritten rule in football, once a third of the season is pass, where you are is where you’ll stay.”
Tell that to K and others. Not sure what they’re waiting on to see this ain’t working. Maybe the second coming I dunno.
A third of the season is usually as very good indicator of form and overall status of the team. So far we’ve been incredibly inconsistent. Inconsistency doesn’t bring you effective results. You may beat your Inter and Real but capitulate to minnows.. that’s bad.
