After Italy’s 1-0 win against Belgium, Massimo Ambrosini has claimed that Sandro Tonali has evolved as a player since leaving AC Milan, given he scored the decisive goal.
Despite having a season away from football, Tonali has been impressive since his return, both for his country and new club Newcastle United. In fact, it does not look like he has spent time away from football, with him adding new traits to his game.
During an interview with Radio Serie A, Ambrosini spoke of the development that has been seen with Tonali recently, and his words have been relayed by Milan News.
“From the point of view of physical presence, of impact, he has put in something more than he did at AC Milan. I’d like to see him even more involved in the game, in my opinion he has a chance to make more of an impact from the point of view of building, of touching the ball. But we’re talking about improvements on an already strong base.
“It was not so obvious after a year’s standstill, he is bringing out everything he had inside.”
Instead of his words being critical of the player that played for the Rossoneri, they were meant as a compliment to the impressive work of the midfielder, and it is a testament of his mindset. Given there have been suggestions that the midfielder could return home one day, seeing the midfielder improve further will only be appreciated by a fanbase that sees the midfielder as one who got away.
Indeed the one that got away…looking forward to his homecoming one day. We really mess up dismantling that scudetto winning midfield.
i know bennacer injured and we shouldn’t let kessi or tonali go we just ruined our midfield
I wouldn’t say ruined because actually a midfield with Fofana, Reijnders and Musah in a 4-3-3 is a pretty good midfield. Also, Morata is able to help the midfield. Our problem is the defense, not the midfield.
Tonali sale is similar to Pirlo’s contract… replacing Tonali with RLC and Musah is a sin…
I notice you left out Reijnders. Is that because he is playing better than Tonali ever did. Can we ever stop pretending Tonali was some great player for us? He wasn’t. And if we didn’t sell him and bring in the players we did the team would’ve been completely in shambles when he got suspended for gambling. We would’ve been left with a midfield of Krunic and Pobega and for sure would not have been playing in Champions League this season. It was a great piece of business for the club. But if your heart is broken about Tonali you can go watch him come off the bench for 20 mins a game for a mid table premier league side.
If I have to hear “dismantled a scudetto winning side/midfield” in be more time….
If I have to hear we dodged a bullet with his betting case again..
Great players and coaches of the game are all saying Tonali leaving was a problem. Yet there are still. Many who have not achieved one tenth of what they did saying Tonali was average or poor or it’s a good sale or that Reijnders is doing better than he is.
Even though they play different positions. It would never not been amazing.
Maybe Pele and Cruif and Rinus Michel and Rocco would need to come back to life to speak on Tonali before it becomes truth.
Denial and selective sight.
