GdS: The similarities between Ancelotti and Pioli that bode well for Milan

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are on the hunt for their first league title since the 2010-11 season and there are some similarities between Stefano Pioli and Carlo Ancelotti which have been pointed out.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanLive) have published a piece comparing Ancelotti and Pioli, remarking how the first point is that they have similar origins. Both of them are from Emilia, and both of them started their coaching careers at Parma.

There are similarities between the two coaches in the way they behave inside their respective dressing rooms as both seek to create a family atmosphere and they have a strong bond with their respective coaching staffs.

The most obvious similarities concern the human traits of the two coaches, the way that they know how to man-mange with calmness and also knowing when to convey peace and serenity to the squad.

Stefano, like Carlo, is not a fierce leader but instead chooses to use empathy and always know the right way to raise the team in difficult moments. The way that both Ancelotti and Pioli have managed Zlatan Ibrahimovic is another similarity, as the former coached the Swede at PSG and they had a great relationship.

Both coaches love to trust young players too, to help them grow and enhance them to the fullest. The examples in this case are Leao, Tonali, Theo Hernandez, Bennacer, Kalulu, Tomori and then Vinicius, Rodrygo, Valverde, Camavinga et al. at Real Madrid.

Ancelotti and Pioli have had different careers, but they have common traits that can bode well in such a tense moment for Milan.

  1. Ancelotti also took over Milan in the middle of a season, then went on to win his first Scudetto on the third year and Champions League on the second year! I hope Pioli would have similar path lucks and hopefully similar coaching glamour 🤗
