Atalanta unwilling to pay €15m as agent confirms defender will make Milan return

Milan will be looking to make some reinforcements in the summer and with Champions League football (yet to be secured), they will have a bigger budget. However, they will also look to offload a few players.

Mattia Caldara is one of these players, having been on loan at Atalanta since January of last year. The now 26-year-old, who once was touted as the next starter for Italy, hasn’t impressed and his market value is now just €6m (per Transfermarkt).

Atalanta have the option to secure the centre-back on a permanent basis for €15m this summer, but they have already made a decision. This was confirmed by the player’s agent, Beppe Riso, to Tuttosport (via Calciomercato.com) as he said: “He will return to Milan”.

Most likely, the Rossoneri will try to find a new destination for Caldara as they already have Matteo Gabbia, Simon Kjaer, Alessio Romagnoli and Fikayo Tomori in the squad. However, they will consider all of the options when the time comes.
