Ismael Bennacer completed his comeback from a lengthy injury recovery this evening as he came on for the second half of Milan-Roma. After the game, he spoke to the media and made it clear that the team is united despite the struggles.
Milan were in desperate need of three points against the Giallorossi but failed to deliver, conceding an equaliser after taking the lead early on. For the second half, Paulo Fonseca brought on Bennacer, who completed his comeback after a long injury absence.
While it wasn’t the best of displays by the Algerian, it was still nice to see him back on the pitch, especially considering the many absences. Speaking to DAZN after the game, as cited by MilanNews, the midfielder shared his thoughts on the situation.
On the result…
“We are united, we are working well. Of course, it’s not the result we wanted but we are trying to win the games. We have to work on a few things, but we are moving forward. It was a special game, but we didn’t lose and this is important.”
On Fonseca…
“I didn’t see the coach at the end of the match, I don’t know what happened. I was doing my warm-up [when he was sent off], these things happen.”
On Milan’s difficulties…
“We are a team. We are finding a balance, we aren’t conceding many goals. With my experience, I have to help the team as much as I can.”
The return to the field…
“I have worked so hard in these months, now I’m here. I want to help the team as much as I can.”
Supercoppa Italiana is up next…
“We are focused on this now, it’s a trophy that we haven’t won for a long time and it would be useful to start 2025 well.”
It remains to be seen if Bennacer will play from start against Juventus next week, although most likely not. As tonight also showed, he needs some time to regain top condition, which was of course expected.
Coming off an injury he did well. He was bound to be rusty.
Also nice to see a midfielder with press resistant skill to calmly manoeuvre in and out of presses
Did well????? WTF?! Did you even watch the match? Barely got a pass to a teammate. Hit the opponent almost every time and almost gifted them a winner. And his shots were both horrible too.
And the sad thing is… He probably won’t even improve from this performance as he’s finished as a player.
Idiot
I know, right! 🙂
It’s ok. I know you don’t understand football. Or how injuries can impact one’s game much less manovure out of a press. Touch grass sometimes. It’s winter..check out some indoor turf fields, it’s bad on your knees but it’ll help you nonetheless.
LOL. I’ve probably played more matches during the last 3 years than you ever combined.
Even if he had been out for 3 seasons, his performance was awful and shouldn’t have been playing yet at all.
