Bennacer discusses ‘tough’ loss for Milan and VAR: “I don’t know what to say”

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan failed to beat Atletico Madrid this evening as the latter fought their way back and scored twice late on. The Rossoneri were extremely unlucky, with some poor officiating, but there were some positives.

Ismael Bennacer was one of the best players for Milan as he was everywhere, intercepting a good amount of balls and building the play for the team. In our ratings, he got 7/10 and was praised for his performance.

Speaking to Mediaset after the game, as cited by MilanNews, Bennacer shared his thoughts on the game and Milan’s performance. He echoed the feelings of every Rossoneri fan right now: losing in that was is very tough.

“When you lose like this, even if we gave everything, it’s always tough. Big games are decided by small details and these have made all the difference. When I talk about this, I talk about everything, but that’s the way it is.

“The penalty? There is the VAR and they made the decision, I don’t know what to say. That’s how it went, we can’t do anything about it. Now we have to raise our heads and be focused on the next match,” he stated.

Milan will now have to recharge their batteries as they will take on Atalanta on Sunday evening. It will be an important game, of course, as they want to continue their unbeaten run and put in a confidence-boosting performance.

    1. It was a good performance, but let’s not get carried away. I don’t think this was their best performance in years. Having 6 defenders in a line is not a tactic. 6-2-1 is not a proper formation even in that situation. Pioli did in the 55th minute what he should have done at half time and brought Balo-Toure in for Brahim, except that Theo should have then operated as an LW in a line of 4 in midfield, to take advantage of his blistering speed, not as some strange tucked in extra CB with Balo-Toure as LB, Tonali and Bennacer left to cover the entire midfield alone. Same thing happened on the other side, with Calabria tucking in and Alexis operating as LB. Poor setup from Pioli to be honest, someone I tend to defend.
