FIkayo Tomori and Davide Calabria were two stars of the Scudetto-winning season in 2021-22, but their time at AC Milan looks set to end.
As this morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport reports, Calabria is going through a tough time at the moment. The captain was the protagonist of a controversial exit from the field against Red Star and his contract expires in June.
For months it has been clear: his contract will not be renewed. In the coming months the Italian will leave Milan, with the relationship having soured towards the end a bit. In the meantime, yesterday he vented on social media.
“A lot of incorrect information has been circulating about me and the team. These insinuations about on-field dynamics, various confrontations and my private life, do not correspond to the truth, they only create confusion and division,” he stated.
It is easy to imagine that he is referring to his involvement in recent articles on Fonseca’s outburst and to a piece of news – never confirmed in the slightest – published by DillingerNews.it about a car accident involving a drunk Calabria.
Then there is Tomori, who is not among the first in the hierarchy but has also worn the armband. The Englishman was a key man during the title-winning campaign but he is now behind Matteo Gabbia and Malick Thiaw in the pecking order.
The idea is that Fonseca will continue with that pairing and Tomori could have got a chance in the Champions League, if he had not been suspended for a yellow card received while warming up. Now, the former Chelsea man is no longer unsellable.
This news feels fake.
Calabrias contract expires in the summer of 2025 and up until now it does seem like he wont be renewed so I think that there is a real possibility of him getting sold in January. I would be surprised if Tomori was sold in the January mercato but if he wont play much then his value might plummet so maybe that isn’t too far fetched either.
Unless we have a replacement lined up I don’t think Fik will be sold in January. Calabria is a much more realistic sale bc we have cover, albeit not great, at fullback.
Well as I also implied Calabria seems like the most likely one to get sold and I actually always has liked him even if he isn’t world class he generally gets the job done. In regard of Tomori and our overall scouting I’m pretty sure to say that they probably have numerous names always lined up for each position so I could see him getting sold but they also need to keep some stability in the squad as well.
Either one won’t be a huge loss at this point. Calabria, even at his prime, was never really good enough (e.g. zero call ups to the Italian NT), and Tomori should probably have a lot of value in Premier league, whereas here his at best a useful sub.
Well Calabria has actually played 7 international matches and I would have prefered us keeping him and then signed a different rb than Royal. Tomori should be able to fetch maybe 25 mil or something so if he isn’t gonna play much they might sell him.
Such sales might not be bad as such but a squad is also more than how technical gifted the players are its also about group chemistry.
Milan will be dismantled one piece at a time. Amazing that everyone here calls themselves fans! Hope you enjoyed the banter era because version 2 is coming!
Losing Calabria wont be a problem. Tomori is much harder to replace in january. Sell Calabria now to get some money.
Terraciano should be given a chance as right back, he will be better there then both Calabria and Emerson been there.
Bartesaghi is a perfect deputy for Theo.
Thats two homegrown Italian players that should be given more chances at their right positions. No need to overpay for mediocre foreign players when we have perfectly good Italian backups already.
Use the funds we have left on Ricci instead who we need alot more then another LB and RB.
We should sell calabria in january before his contract run out at the end of season.
If calabria go for free, it will be another history for this trophyless cardinale milan. Our last 3 captain go for free. It will be 4, if theo go for free at the end of next season.
This trophyless cardinale milan like to make new history.
