Fabio Capello shared his thoughts on AC Milan’s 2-0 defeat to Juventus in his usual Gazzetta dello Sport column, delivering a very harsh assessment. One can only agree with it, though.
Milan struggled to play out of Juve’s press and as a result, the Bianconeri dominated possession throughout the game. The same can be said for dangerous chances even if the Rossoneri had a few good counter-attacks in the first half.
In his usual column for Gazzetta dello Sport, the legendary manager Capello shared his thoughts on what went wrong for Milan. Everything was more or less his response, highlighting the dire situation in the standings as well.
“Moving on to the late afternoon match, Juventus’ victory over Milan is important in terms of their Champions League position. I was struck by Milan’s weakness. A poor, poor Milan, which proved to be inferior above all from a technical point of view.
“Conceicao’s team clearly struggled with Juventus’ pressing. In the first half, on the rare occasions in which they managed to come out cleanly, they managed to create some goal-scoring opportunities. But they didn’t score and in the second half, they completely collapsed, precisely because the first possession was disastrous, badly managed, with all those balls to Maignan.
“The feeling is that, despite changing coaches, the Rossoneri still depend on the left wing: if Theo and Leao don’t light up, it’s pitch black. Fofana and Reijnders struggled, let alone the others. And then Bennacer, tormented by injuries, is not in good condition and it shows. So Juve had no choice but to close down on the sides of their two best opponents and put effective pressure on the others.
“Is the race over for the Rossoneri? Calm down. First of all, we don’t know if Serie A will bring four or five teams to UCL next year. Conceicao hasn’t been on the bench long enough to raise the white flag either. But of course, if Milan will be the same team seen yesterday in Turin, then the hopes of managing to snatch a ticket to the next Champions League will be practically zero,” he wrote.
Conceicao needs reinforcements from the transfer window and he needs it now. With Fikayo Tomori potentially heading to Juventus, Milan reportedly have a plan to reinvest the proceeds so there might be some movement soon.
no pulisic no party.
The only MVP we’ve got.
We need reinforce our team we can’t rely on Rafa and Theo
And milan play many times at the back they struggle to accelerate forward they like to play back ball too much if it’s a coach instruction to do so must change it because is not working for us we need more attacking players not rely on Rafa and Theo only milan must sign attacking players and strong defenders.
Looking at how we labored against some of the also rans in Serie a ( Como, Parma, Torino, etc. it becomes embarrassing to keep paddling this excuse that Milan does not have the material to compete. Something else is seriously wrong if these teams with half the quality manage to show up in games and we get completely played off the park. Honestly there is nowhere to hide anymore and we need to ride out this season and reconstruct the team with functional players for the coach’s system.
Pulisic is the main man. Milan struggled without him
“The feeling is that, despite changing coaches, the Rossoneri still depend on the left wing: if Theo and Leao don’t light up, it’s pitch black. Fofana and Reijnders struggled, let alone the others. And then Bennacer, tormented by injuries, is not in good condition and it shows. So Juve had no choice but to close down on the sides of their two best opponents and put effective pressure on the others.”
Well in yesterday’s game, the right wing had Musah and Emerson, not exactly a very creative flank or very efficient offensively.
Wow it good that we the fan have from our Conceicao day dreaming, no club with succeed with Ibrahimovic management team, they placed retired players over the Coach which is why Fonseca will bench any player whom doesn’t want to show seriousness or willingness to play for the team so they fired him to cover there mistake most play are meant to leave for new player.
Milan would have struggled with Pulisic as well. There was no hunger last night to fight back. We were getting bullied and dominated. Couldn’t even string together enough passes out of the back to hit on the counter… I mean every time Gabbia got the ball he had to boot it out…
I thought Conceicao was a “mentality monster”. Didn’t see it last night. And not being able to get the ball out of the back is a tactical problem. Honestly, I could not be less impressed with Conceicao right now. Even in the matches we’ve won we outplayed. Tactically he’s a downgrade from Fonseca, so if he can’t get these guys to outwork and out hustle the other team we are really screwed.
Like I mentioned before, mentality does not switch overnight. Conceicao is a mentality monster but 2 weeks isn’t enough to judge anything.
There have been some positive changes in the team so far but yesterday everything sort of collapsed. i still think Conceicao will have a positive effect on this team with some help from mercato and more time.
I’m still puzzled as to what these positive changes are? The fact that we were able to by luck and effort come back in some of these games? I find it much more troubling that we fall behind in every single game.
We need NEW different BODIES !!!!!
