Tuttosport: Cardinale to discuss Leao’s Milan renewal when takeover is fully complete

By Euan Burns -

RedBird Capital Group founder and managing partner Gerry Cardinale is set to discuss the renewal of Rafael Leao’s contract when the takeover has been finalised, a report claims.

As has been reported by Tuttosport today (via Milan News), the transition period from Elliott Management to the ownership of RedBird Capital Group makes it hard to hold serious contract talks with such an important player.

Leao showed against Bologna with his goal and an assist that he is at the centre of what Milan do best and he must be kept at the club if it is possible.

Cardinale knows that he will likely have to meet the player’s wage demands which are thought to be around €7 million. The most Milan have currently aid they would go to is €4.5m so there is work to do.

Many top clubs would be willing to pay a lot of money for Leao so it is a stick or twist decision for RedBird.

  1. If Leão gets 7mil, be sure every other player will increase their own wage demands. If you give Leão 7mil, then Bennacer who hasn’t renewed can ask for 5-6mil. Tonali can as for same. Any player to be renewed who is a regular will ask for at least 5mil.

  2. I believe when I see it. But if we can’t keep our best players then we can’t compete at the highest level. Leao and Bennaces must stay, 7 mil is much but he could easily get more of he leaves for free.
