Cardinale has ‘no intention of selling Milan’ and jokes: “Aren’t we in the lead?”

By Isak Möller -

Gerry Cardinale is expected in Milano on Monday for the derby between AC Milan and Inter, which is a very important game. In a recent interview, the American clarified a few things regarding his project for the Rossoneri.

In the last few months, following a seizure of documents at Casa Milan, Cardinale’s ownership of Milan has been questioned. Of course, as we stated immediately on our Substack, these claims were and are completely unfounded.

Speaking to Il Sore 24 Ore, as cited by MilanNews, Cardinale clarified a few things regarding his ownership. He also stated that he has no intention of selling the club to another investor or consortium, having just started what is a long-term project.

On the ownership…

“I would like to clarify the facts once and for all. With a stake of 99.93%, RedBird is the controlling shareholder of AC Milan. The remaining 0.07% is made up of individual Italian investors who are long-time fans of the club.”

On the involvement of the New York Yankees…

“I asked the New York Yankees to invest in a small minority stake together with RedBird as part of our overall investment, given the strong 25-year partnership I have with them.”

On Elliott and the vendor loan…

“Elliott provided a loan to RedBird with a three-year expiration and zero governance rights. This loan is no different than any other third-party financing we could have obtained, with the added benefit that Elliott brought a track record of improvement to AC Milan before our acquisition.”

On the future of the club…

“I have just arrived and I have no intention of selling Milan. My objective is to create a solid and winning foundation. Why should I give up ownership? There are no talks with any investor who can obtain control or governance of Milan.”

On the team’s performance…

“Aren’t we in the lead (he jokes)? On a serious note, we are still in second place. And we will never stop aiming to win.”

In addition to watching the Debry, Cardinale is also expected to sit down with the management and discuss the post-Stefano Pioli era. The manager is set to part ways with the club and Milan have several candidates on their list.

    1. Nope, it doesn’t. It’s called sarcasm.

In any case, I’m not expecting the club to say anything concrete until the end of the season. They’ve made that quite clear despite the cajoling questions put out to them.

  1. Cardinale: we will never stop aiming to win.

Also Cardinale: buy low, sell high

So tell me, which club has succeed and won it while buying on a cheap and selling for profit? Arsenal? BVB? Leipzig? Porto? Benfica? Ajax?

    1. Who have we sold under Cardinale? Tonali? Thats it. They managed to keep all the biggest stars so far, and have also brought in quality for a price that we can actually pay. We can compete on the market with PL and Barca/Real. Building a foundation and building on young unfinished players with the addition of the occasional star*ish players, will be the only way to go. Most of you dont see reality.

      1. Let’s talk about it in a 3 year time. Meanwhile please watch podcast where Cardinale admit Billy Beane persuaded him to invest in European football for the reason stated above “buy low, sell high”. He also says Toulouse was a trial to see how things will go. Now he’s on to Milan. You have that podcast published here as well. Enjoy.

          1. He didn’t tell anything new, same ol’ bollocks about the loan and his views on sports and what his plan is (which is totally contradicting to what he’s doing). But this was new. And quite honest. And I respect him for that. But I also support his ownership even less.

  2. Club is still in debt, under UEFAs settlement agreement, pending new stadium, club thats still in recovery phase from the disaster of chinese owners and Berla

Now would you buy a club like that if youre a saudi oiler, or just abnormally rich in general? Those type of owners are very ambitious and are a reasonable option make in 28/29. This isnt football manager. RB and Elliott are a perfect fit for our current situation

  4. Some of you here don’t even understand the situation of the Italian football. Which of the Italian clubs can afford to buy expensive without selling?
The Serie A is a debted league that is not a competitive league compared to Spain, England and Germany. Because of the archaic mentality of the Italian officials in sport and politics, they are resistant to changes. How many Serie A clubs are rich and have their own modern stadium. They still play in undergraded stadiums like San Siro. The old days where money is laundering in Italy are over and we see what happened afterwards, Juve, Inter, Milan and so on…they don’t have money anymore to spend, therefore they can’t spend big, and proven players don’t want to come to Italy. You have to know that sport is business more than ever. Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern, Manchester, Chelsea, PSG, and so on sell players every transfer window. How many players has Milan sold so far? Only Tonali. I know your hateful feelings towards foreigners in Serie A blinds you from seeing the reality, but Serie A is still a mess in Europe and Serie A clubs need to be rescued. No good TV rights, no good endorsement.
Cardinale has a clear vision on how to manage
Still, the Milan fans here think the Serie A is competitive
