CF: Milan collected just under €78m from Serie A TV rights in 2021/22

AC Milan clinched their first Scudetto in eleven years this past season and thus cemented their spot at the top of Italian football, back after many tough years. And their success was somewhat reflected in the TV revenue.

It’s widely known that few leagues can compete with the TV rights revenue of the Premier League, and that was indeed the case this past season. As per Calcio e Finanza, Milan collected just under €78m from the TV rights.

Meanwhile, Man City (who won the Premier League) collected a whopping €187m, which says a lot about the massive difference. Milan didn’t even collect the most in Serie A, but that was to be expected given recent years.

The revenue is calculated by several factors, as the report highlights, such as final position, historical results and the last five seasons. Juventus managed to beat the Rossoneri by €100k, also collecting just under €78m.

Inter ended up in first place with €84m collected. It should also be noted that there’s quite a significant drop from the top three teams to the fourth-placed one, which was Napoli (€68m).

  1. So 100M difference a season is the reason why City buys 120M players and Milan has to get a discount on a 4.5M player? It is a nice amount but sponsorship money is the difference.

    1. You quite right bro, but don’t worth, Milan will get there one day. You see the premier league is so highly polarized and tv money is the reason…

    2. Well it doesn’t really say that. English clubs have several factors in their favour (bigger TV because of global reach, but bigger sponsorships as a result too plus the stability where even relegation will provide big TV money the next season). For the record, Leeds Utd made more than Milan from TV income last season…

But obviously the biggest factor specifically with Man City is the rule bending and lack of need to make any sort of business sense in what they do…
