CM: Adli, Milan and conflicting desire – the latest amid Brentford and Saudi rumours

By Oliver Fisher -

Despite his strong desire to remain at AC Milan and fight for a place in the team, the management have made it clear that they will listen to offers for him.

According to Calciomercato.com, the tour in the United States has not changed Milan’s strategy: Adli remains among the players who can be sold in the current transfer window, and he is not part of Paulo Fonseca’s plans.

The exclusions against Manchester City and Real Madrid in the 2024 Soccer Champions Tour (even if there was talk of a knock) were a clear signal, while his substitute appearance in the last half hour against Barcelona and the penalty scored in the shootout have not reversed the trend.

Milan are continuing to search for a new midfielder with Youssouf Fofana and Manu Konéare the two names at the top of Geoffrey Moncada and Giorgio Furlani’s list, and that’s not the only factor playing against Adli’s hopes of staying.

The Serie A and Champions League squad list regulation mean that the Franco-Algerian would have to occupy one of the 17 slots available for players over 22 who cannot be registered on lists pertaining to academy graduates, so he could well be left out based on market movements and coaching choices.

Where might Adli go? Sky spoke of a €12m offer from Brentford but they seem more advanced in talks with Napoli over Jens Cajuste of Napoli, while even then it remains to be seen whether the offer would be accepted and if Adli would want to go.

Milan paid €8.5m three summers ago to sign Adli from Bordeaux and are hoping for €13-14m to sell, a sum that Al-Shabab could also have put on the table, but the player has not shown any openings to the idea of moving to Saudi Arabia.

Everything is on hold, but with the return from the United States the parties will start talking more in depth about the future. Adli will try to remain at Milan again, continuing to demonstrate his attachment, though this time it seems more difficult.

    1. Exactly. We need to overprice our players. We don’t need to sell him. (At least on paper).

Even though Adli is a bench player there is something there and giving him away for cheap is not worth it.

Bennacer is a starting player more or less when not injured. He is not old and the Saudi teams should pay a lot to get him.
If I remember right, didn’t we extend his contract to get rid of the clause?

  1. He’s not complete, yes, but he has something our other midfielders are lacking. Personally, I’d rather sell Pobega, if only he’s not a homeground player.

  2. the only thing that makes people think they see something special in him, is that he is taking a lot of risk in his play. so if one out of 10 risky passes/dribbles is successful he looks like a genius, if not – we saw it a few times last season. he doesnt have the quality for a place in a successful team that we all want. he has only 30 Serie A appearances though, which would per regulation allow for the futuro team – if he’s so desperately in love with the club.
