CM: Calhanoglu’s best position clear as Rangnick makes promise over contract

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan will once again count on midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu into next season, a report claims, with a more creative role on the cards.

The Turkey international had a hand to play in all four of Milan’s goals against Lecce on Monday as he bagged two assists, plus it was his shot who was spilled for Giacomo Bonaventura to make it 2-1. You can see the highlights of his performance here.

His agent spoke on Tuesday regarding his client’s future and the fact his deal expires in 2021, and revealed that the 26-year-old has ambitions of playing in the Champions League.

Nonetheless, the vast majority of reports in the media suggest that Calhanoglu will instead pen an extension on his current contract and remain at Milan beyond the summer

Indeed Calciomercato.com report how there has been a confirmation dictated by Rangnick to the player regarding a renewal, meaning the 26-year-old will continue to have a key role into the future.

Now his position must be established, though it is worth noting that the former Leverkusen man has always shown his best qualities playing as a No.10, where he is free of coverage and defensive tasks.

Calhanoglu has shown the first signs, now it is necessary to put him in the right position to continue his good form, and Rangnick will be keeping a close eye on proceedings too.
