CM: Change of plans for Matteo Gabbia as Milan assess defensive situation

By Isak Möller -

Having signed Brahim Diaz and Sandro Tonali, Milan are now working on the transfer market to strengthen other areas. As became very clear last night, the Rossoneri need to bring in a new centre-back.

Leo Duarte, after struggling against Novara, failed to impress once again and was disastrous at times during the friendly against Monza. Matteo Gabbia, therefore, remains the third choice behind the starting duo Alessio Romagnoli and Simon Kjaer.

Mateo Musacchio is currently out injured and could even be sold, should the right offer arrive this summer. It’s clear that Gabbia can’t be the only competent reserve at Stefano Pioli’s disposal, which is why one more centre-back is needed.

According to Calciomercato.com, the Rossoneri have changed their strategy with regards to Gabbia. The youngster was initially meant to be sent out on loan, but it has become clear that Pioli needs him this season, competing in three competitions.
