It’s not exactly a secret that Chelsea were very interested in Rafael Leao last summer, and even in January, but the winger is now ready to sign the renewal with AC Milan. But the English side really tried, as a report highlights.
Milan have reached an agreement with Leao for the renewal, as we were one of the first to report, and technical director Paolo Maldini also confirmed the matter after the defeat against Inter. In short, the matter is over for Chelsea.
According to Calciomercato.com, Chelsea really tried to sign Leao, first offering €100m in the summer and the proposing a swap in January. The two players proposed to Milan were Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic, with some cash included as well.
Milan, however, remained firm on their stance and continued to refer Chelsea to the €150m release clause. Speaking of, the release clause in Leao’s new contract will be set at €175m, which the Rossoneri feel reflects the winger’s value.
Those two combined are not even a third of Leao’s value.
They overpaid Mudryk and Enzo. So they wanted Leao for less price. It will be interesting in near future what will be with Leao and release clause.
They don’t need to sign anyone. They literally have all they need and then some.
They need to have a sane owner. 600 millions just for 11th place…
