CM: Chiesa ends up at Liverpool – the background on the Milan ‘temptation’

Federico Chiesa has officially completed his move to Liverpool, and some background has emerged on the talks that AC Milan held over signing him.

According to Calciomercato.com, Chiesa has fulfilled what was one of his dreams – playing in the Premier League – and at one of the most famous clubs in the world, Liverpool, and in a magical stadium like Anfield.

The forward closed his experience at Juventus with his own version of the facts on his Instagram profile: “I have never received any offer of renewal from Juventus and, consequently, there has never been a request from me or my entourage regarding an increase or a reduction in my salary.”

Chiesa understood in January that the end of the story with Juventus was only a matter of time because Fali Ramadani, the agent of the former Fiorentina man, was aware of the fact that director Cristiano Giuntoli was looking at signing a number of attacking players.

This is also why Chiesa never seriously considered the hypothesis of a bridging renewal, because he wanted to choose his own destiny without giving any favours to a management that had not renewed their trust in him.

Among the Italian teams, Milan were the strongest temptation. Chiesa and the Rossoneri have come close to each other several times over the years and there was a chat between Ramadani and Moncada.

However, nothing more concrete came of it because on an economic level it was not a sustainable operation for Milan, and now Chiesa is starting again at Liverpool.

    1. At 5mil and below with no signing fee? yeah. I’d say so. Plus Rabiot is more of a position of need than another winger.

    2. Exactly

AND we are not getting Rabiot either

Nothing is sustainable apparently, even though we are “profitable” again….

      Good times

  1. I think this is an opportunity missed. I refuse to believe that in this age of ‘creative accounting’, we can’t find a deal that would suit every parties involved. I’m thinking like a base salary of 4M, and 20% bonus with 50% appearance rate (making it 5M/season), and another 20% bonus with 75% appearance (making it 6M/season), would probably be considered by his entourage? This wage structure would also protect us in case he got injured again, and he would be playing like hell to earn that bag by making sure that he’s undroppable.

Also, bear in mind that he doesn’t actually have a strong hand in the negotiation, as he would be risking being frozen out for a season by Juve. Sure, he would be getting offers from overseas – as evidenced by the eventual transfer, but if he’s keen to stay in a competitive Serie-A team, we were probably the best option for him.

Of course it would be argued that we’re well stacked at wing department. But, Chiesa COULD possibly bench Leao, especially if he starts to slack again. And imagine our wing rotation with Leao, Chiesa, Pulisic and Chuk. Man, that would’ve been tasty – no quality drops throughout the season and keeping all our wingers fresh? Yes please!

    Oh well.

  2. i would love to have chiesa he is better than puli and chuk puli did have a good season but all of his ga were against small teams and chuk hasnt found his villa real form
