CM: Hope for Arsenal as Milan reject swap with Roma involving €50m Man Utd linked winger

By Oliver Fisher -

Talks have been held between Roma and AC Milan over potential opportunities for the January mercato, a report claims, with a midfielder at the centre of it.

Tuttosport reported earlier on Sunday that Roma are interested in signing Hakan Calhanoglu from the Rossoneri this month as Paulo Fonseca looks to bolster his midfield depth.

According to Calciomercato.com, the Turkey international is indeed in the sights of the Giallorossi, who want him for his quality and flexibility, but at the moment the deal is uphill.

The former Hamburg and Bayer Leverkusen man is on the market despite being an almost permanent starter under Stefano Pioli, but the Diavolo have set an asking price of €25million.

This is too much for Roma, who want to spend as little as possible and are aiming to lower the price by adding a counterpart to the deal. For this reason they tried to gauge Milan’s interest in Cengiz Under, but Milan are not interested at the moment due to the emergence of Samu Castillejo.

Interestingly, Under is apparently valued at €50m (as per La Gazzetta dello Sport) and has been linked with a move to Manchester United, Arsenal and Spurs in the Premier League.

If Roma want Calhanoglu badly, they must think of something else, especially as the Daily Mirror are claiming that Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is interested in the idea of signing him.
