CM: Milan could drop pursuit of West Ham striker and pay €10m clause instead

AC Milan are in search of a new striker ahead of the upcoming season and many names have been linked with the club. Gianluca Scamacca appears to be the favourite, but Alvaro Morata is quickly gathering steam.

Milan have said goodbye to Zlatan Ibrahimovic and are also expected to part ways with Ante Rebic this summer. A new striker will thus be needed, seeing as Olivier Giroud cannot play every single game from start to finish.

According to Calciomercato.com, Stefano Pioli and the Rossoneri would prefer to sign West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca this summer. They are willing to offer a paid loan with an option to buy, but the English side have not opened to this solution yet.

As a result, Milan also have Alvaro Morata as a Plan B and are now seriously considering paying the €10m release clause in his contract. Even though the Spaniard is a lot older than Scamacca (24) at 31, it would be a cheaper deal.

  1. Giroud Morata Origi…

    Hmm.

Than most important thing who will be attacking midfielder, and new right winger. And what will be in the midfield.

If we got stronger midfield and right wing, than they can risk with striker position.

    1. With Leao, SMS and Pulisic/Chukwueze it could work but we still need a quicker mobile striker, that is why Lakaku Opendo, Bolagan or my personal favorite would be Beto!

  2. Morata is not it man. We keep betting on strikers that need assits to put in goals. Why cant we get a striker that can get the work done by themselves?

    1. Exactly. Giroud, Morata, Origi. That means Giroud would have to do everything by himself. Again. No support whatsover from the backups. If you can even call them that.

Better bring in Colombo than wasting money on a useless tool such as Morata. Money wasted.

    2. Agree – we need a whole other kind of profile here – a Shevchenko type who can create something out of nothing. But apparently we’re not scouting any gems fresh from Eastern Europe Africa South America etc. or it’s not being reported on anyway.

  3. Did our great management see morata play ?!!! He need 20 freaking chances to score a goal ! Pay the 10mill as loan for a striker and buy him next year .. we will need a striker next year anyway

    1. They only see the price and that’s what counts apparently. Getting Morata means Giroud will have to work overtime again.

    2. He is the same as Giroud when you check the key stats for a striker. Definitely not bad for 10M. If you think Giroud was great you can’t say Morata is bad. 😀

  4. So does the algorithm support the purchase?
    That’s the real question.

The guy is 30 and has never topped 15 goals once. 15 goals is his best league season while playing for Real Madrid. I assume the service was reasonable.

    This is a bad joke.

    1. Exactly, where does the stats machine pull this turd from?

If the strategy was signing young players with an emphasis on young Italians (Parisi, Viti, Reteguu, Baldazini, Scamacca) I could get on board…but it clearly isn’t that

    2. So didn’t Giroud. And Scammacca is even worse. In reality Morata will be better than Giroud in build up play and will score about the same number of goals like him. I mean from the options that are mentioned this is the best cheap option since obviously Milan won’t spend 30-40 or more on a striker.

      1. He I thought Cardinale sacked Maldini because Maldini want to sign some experienced players instead of only young player.

        1. Well maybe and I think the plan was to sign younger players but there is no money. You know, that guy Jackson Martinez that went to Chelsea for 35M, Chukuweze, they thought Villareal will give him for 15-20M. And a few more players that Milan values lower than the selling club. And when they got rejected and the offers were laughed at, they switched to cheap targets. 10M for Pulisic, 10M for Morata. Honestly, those 2 players for 20M is really good. Morata and Giroud are similar and it will be ok to have 2 of them, almost the same player if you check the stats, literally every single one, from how many shots they need to score to actual goals scored per 90 minutes. And he is 31, not 37 when the season starts. Pulisic, well I think you can sell him next season for 10M easy if it doesn’t work out. No risk with that low fee.

  5. There’s a lot of comments about “Morata doesn’t score many goals” and that’s true of a top level striker, but ask why so many top clubs and coaches put faith in him.

He’s a very similar player to Giroud in that he’s very involved in build up play and getting the best out of wingers and other attackers and, I guess, if he’s the preferred option it’s to allow him and Giroud to play the same role, cover each other when injured and give each other time to rest through the season.

Now I would argue that it won’t help the team if we can’t develop a better Plan B to help break down low blocks, and that’s why I think he shouldn’t be first choice, but you can’t just write him off saying “he’s not very good” because he’s been doing it at the top level for years and years.

    1. He’s a proven goal scorer and not “old and past it” which is why I’m not having a meltdown like some people on here but I just hope we don’t go into next season alternating between Giroud and Morata and that’s it.

    2. He isn’t a goalscorer, they play him because he is really useful. That is why I don’t understand people talking bad about him and giving Giroud praises. Morata is 100% better in receiving the ball and passing it on to their teammates, Giroud fails most of those. And they score about the same. For 10M you can’t get a better player.

  6. “ Even though the Spaniard is a lot older than Scamacca (24) at 31, it would be a cheaper deal.”

“CHEAPER DEAL” – 10M compared to 35M for Scamacca????? Hmmm I wonder which direction Redbird will go????? It’s a huge mystery!! Hahahahahahaha!!!

    Welcome to Milan Mr. Morata!!!!!

  7. O ffs.. Morata earns 5.2M at patetiko.. Might as well keep Origi, with 4M, a?
Since theyre both useless at least Origi might get a goal or two in at some point.
All theyre gonna do is buy a cr@p player that they wont be able to offload

    1. Exactly. We already got one Origi and that’s enough. No reason to pay total of 8-9M€ for two strikers who can’t find the net even if they’re tangled inside it.

Let’s be honest, Colombo is 1000x better option for Giroud’s backup than these two useless clowns combined.

      1. ofc he is, even lazetić might be better. At least those have room to grow.
If they wanna spend cheap buy that Nzola from spezia and hope for the best. At least his pay isnt on par with Milans best players and can play rw 2

        1. Agreed. Giroud, Colombo, Lazetic. Sooooo much better than Giroud, Origi, Morata. And yes, I rank Origi above that Spanish loser.

          1. It is because you don’t understand football. Morata wouldn’t be the first striker for Spain if he wasn’t useful. But he won’t score 40 goals a season, probably not even 20. Giroud also doesn’t. I really can’t understand how can you be so critical of Morata and praise Giroud who scores about the same. Their career goal numbers are there, Morata is a bit better in goals per minute. If Morata is awful, Giroud is below that.

    2. If only dude could name 1 other spanish striker. I know i cant. Spain has 0 quality center forwards.
On the other side france has plenty, still the old dude Giroud plays.. go fiugre

  8. Neither of these two are it. Scamacca…I can see it as a replacement for giroud but he and morata are just the same as giroud. We need dynamism up top. Someone dogged, skilful, who creates panic when he’s got the ball at his feet with his back to goal. Not just someone to lay it off, watch it get worked round and wait to hopefully get on the end of a cross. We’ve done that the last 3 years and we need new ideas up top. Even Leao thinks banging it high and wide from 30 yards is the better option half the time. Get us a terrier. Cunning, quick, can sniff a goal, can run at people, draw fouls, make runs…Christ! Give us Lautaro. I f*ckin hate Inter. We’re so far behind them it’s scary. We were so close to pulling away from them as well. Now all our winning mentality is threadbare. Suning, for their money woes at least said No! To Barella and we could have done the same. Now I see Inter will have Barella/Fratessi mid. Motherf*ckin f*ck you stupid C@nt cardinal. F*ck you you piece of sh!t. Morata, give me f@ckin strength. The guy converts 1 in 6 chances. We create 2 chances a match. Put the 70m and 50m together and go and get vlahovic, kamada, sms and pulisic and be done with it. Hang on wait, we’ve already done 20m..wait what 20 MILLION!!! On Loftus Cheek! So now the budgets f@cked as well. C****nts!

  9. If the choice only scamacca & morata , better go scamacca loan with obligation to buy. Morata old and even in ATM he is just back up striker

  10. What Poli needs to do is to get CDK ADIL ORIGI to be back at their best. We have 3 new flops, no need to add more flops.

  11. What a bad striking core if we have Giroud, Morata, and Origi. All the weight will be on Giroud at his age yet again. Team is a joke.

    1. Why do you all write Origi? I mean Rebic did score some really important goals in his time at Milan. Origi did nothing.

  12. Oliver Giroud is class real class ..you can’t replace that
Yes I agree he needs a back up ,but no different for all positions in the team ..Oliver Giroud has never been blessed with pace ,but then again why should he need it …What he needs is good service with pace around him …Olivier Giroud is the best centre forward anywhere in the world ..Yes inside the 18 yard area that’s where he lives ..He sheer physical strength and immense awareness and technical ability is second to none ,he knows exactly where to be at the right time
a great skill that only he possesses.
He has had two great seasons for us around 20 goals in all competitions last season ,,,season before we won the scuddeto and much of this was down to none other than OLIVIER GIROUD…We will challenge again for honours next season …I predict that Olivier Giroud will have his best season ever for both us and his country France ..

  13. Giroud is class he has lots to offer yet ..
He will score goals against any team in the world .
I am fed up with some of the criticism of him .
He needs pace around him ,if he has that then he can and I believe score around 20 goals in all competitions next season ..What you have in Giroud is sheer physical strength technical ability and awareness as to were to be at the right time …Inside the 18 yard area there is no one better than him anywhere .
Yes he may be 37 years old ,but his experience is vital .I am predicting that next season ,yes even at his age he will have his best season for Milan ,and will still be an important player for his country France .
Yes he needs a centre forward to help him out ,but not to replace him ..What we need need is a tall strong fast skillful midfielder,,and yes perhaps Loftus cheek could be such a man ,,only concern with him is he does seem to be injury prone ..if he stays fit then he will be a huge asset to us ..Another player I like very much is Adama Traore from wolves ,fast strong and physical, perhaps he could be become a good defensive player …so please stay supportive and optimistic for next season .I believe we will challenge for honours again next season ..
