CM: Milan identify Sassuolo-owned striker as suitable Ibrahimovic heir – the situation

By Isak Möller -

It’s clear that Milan will need to sign a striker eventually, perhaps already in January, as Zlatan Ibrahimovic can’t play every game from start. Furthermore, he’s expected to retire after the 2021/22 season.

According to Calciomercato.com, the Rossoneri are following Gianluca Scamacca with great interest, having been linked with him in the past as well. This season, the striker has scored six goals in seven appearances for Genoa.

Paolo Maldini likes him and a potential transfer would also fit Ivan Gazidis’ economic and personal parameters. This year, therefore, could be important to see if Scamacca will make the big leap to one of the top sides.

Milan are enjoying Ibrahimovic right now, but it’s necessary to think about the future as well. Finding a replacement for the Swede is almost impossible, but Scamacca may be a candidate to strengthen and improve the attack even more.

The 21-year-old will return to Sassuolo at the end of the season, only on loan at the Rossoblu. His contract with the Mapei side will end in 2023.
