CM: Milan’s best effort in eight years but everything hinges on Champions League

By Isak Möller -

Thanks to the win against Benevento last night, Milan are now at 69 points in the league standings, although still not sure of a top-four finish. Yet, it’s the most points they have got in eight years.

As highlighted by Calciomercato.com, the Rossoneri last registered this many points in the 2012/13 season, when they got to 72 in the end. It seems that record could be beaten this term, although we can’t say for sure yet.

Despite their best effort in eight years, it could end up being a disappointment for Milan as qualifying for Champions League is absolutely crucial. Without it, as stated in the report, the summer mercato would be a low-cost one.

Instead of potential game-changing investments, it would be loans, bargains and risks. It could be very hard to close the gap with Inter at the point, as the Nerazzurri already have a stronger squad and would be able to invest more (if their ownership allows for it).
