CM: Milan’s summer signings barely seen despite crisis – answers are needed

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan’s summer transfer window has so far not brought the answers that many fans hoped for with a number of players having been used sparingly or not at all.

Calciomercato.com recall how Milan have been in a selection crisis on multiple occasions under Stefano Pioli in the last two seasons which shows how important depth is for a squad that seems to be plagued by injuries repeatedly.

The away game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and the return fixture at San Siro against the Premier League side highlighted the issues, and now there is frantic spell of eight games spread over about a month which begins on Sunday in Verona.

With Florenzi, Calabria, Saelemakers and Ibrahimovic already out until 2023, Pioli is confident of recovering Maignan, Kjaer and De Ketelaere by the Monza game and that will obviously help to raise the quality level of his starting line-up and he can return to managing rotations with a wider range of possibilities.

However, it must also be a period in which the new signings are seen to be making an impact because Sergino Dest has struggled overall so far, Malick Thiaw has not played a single minute, Aster Vranckx has had a couple of cameos, Yacine Adli has barely been seen and Divock Origi has not scored yet.

Answers must arrive because this stretch of games takes us to the World Cup break and then the January window, in which Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara may feel they need to intervene to sign some players more ready to immediately give a contribution.
