CM: Pioli left ‘disappointed’ after Milan’s January window – the situation

By Oliver Fisher -

Stefano Pioli did not get the reinforcements that he hoped for during the January transfer window and he has been left unhappy as a result, a report claims.

In the end Milan had to make do with Matteo Gabbia and Filippo Terracciano as the two additions in the winter window, which is not as exciting as had been suggested heading into the month.

According to what is being reported by Calciomercato.com, Pioli was ‘disappointed’ by Milan’s winter transfer window and the lack of business that he publicly admitted he expected to happen.

The return of defender Gabbia from his loan at Villarreal and the arrival of Terracciano from Hellas Verona do not fully satisfy the coach, who was expecting a further reinforcement in defence and another in midfield.

The underlying problem is that Pioli has already understood that the club do not intend to keep him on the bench for next season, despite the fact that he is under contract until June 2025.

As a result, it seems the decision was made not to invest too much in January to thus have more funds available for whomever the new coach is in the summer, which obviously does not help Pioli’s cause.

  1. He needs to go back and continue to manage his mid-table team as he had always done( salernitana, Parma, chievo,Fiorentina, Lazio) even when inter hired him it was a stop gap before a top manager came in- therefore, you are no fit for top team because your small team mentality has affected your vision of a top team management!
No game vision, no game creativity, no game organisation, just give the ball to leao and hope for the best! What top manager does that?
Common man you need to leave ASAP…your time is up..thank you wish you the best

    1. While i disagree on a lot of your points, I do believe Pioli’s cycle is over. I will always be thankful for the scudetto, the semis in the UCL and the overall stability he brought in. Let’s not forget we were a complete sht show before he came in. Having said that, it’s time to move on, get new ideas.

      1. I think I need to make something’s clear, some managers had managed to win scudetto not because of their ingenuity but because of pure chance( the other team were either unstable, lack of competition, lack of goals, transition etc)…
Zaccheroni won scudetto, it doesn’t make him a great coach? Has he ever won anything since then? Claudio Ranieri won premier league( does that make him a great coach? So many can be said about what makes a manager a great coach?
        We can name it;
Lasting impacts on the game.( Cruyff, Arigo Sacchi, Spalletti, Guardiola)
Winning everywhere you go ( Trappatoni, Lippi, Capello, Allegro, Mancini, Mourinho, Ancelloti, Klopp)
Radical transformation and respected all across board( Alex Ferguson, Arsenal Wenger, Del bosque)
Bold, daring & innovative( S.inzaghi, De zerbi, sarri etc..)
Now I could keep on mentioning….but I don’t know where Pioli belong…it’s not as if he define an era, no definitive style, it’s not as if his charisma could make the owner and everyone look in awe! So what makes him wanna make him be RESPECTED….i guess that’s the word we should all look for!

        1. yes Pioli is the worst Milan coach ever, worse than Inzaghi Brocchi Gattuso Seedorf, so bad, he should be jailed for being so bad

          1. Man just cracked me up🤣🤣🤣🤣…. I presume you have just taken it personal! He is not so bad to be jailed ! He is just too BAD TO MANAGE AC MILAN ( Team with the 2nd most won champions league! After Madrid) ….I hope you know what that means man! So it’s not a team of Pioli calibre! He should just get lost and never ever come back!

    2. Not sure what people expect from Pioli. I’ll concede that is not the best as far as offensive tactics, but he makes the most of what he’s got. He’s got the third best squad in Serie A and they are sitting comfortably in third. Inter has a far better squad than Milan if we are being honest. And Pioli won the Scudetto with probably the third or 4th best squad in the league that year. That’s not something Conte would have done. Conte only wins if he has the best players.

    1. Or they’ve decided to move on from Pioli in the summer. Why bring in more “Pioli players” when you’re going to have a new manager requesting different players in 6 months? Spend less now to have more to spend for the new manager later. No point in buying a player for this manager that might end up not being used by the next manager.

      1. Agree. With this treatment, we can clearly see that the management don’t see the future on Pioli. And maybe we’ll hear another press con when he says ‘he’s not alone’ all over again. When it’s clear as day that he is.

  2. We were never going to spend in the winter. Not only because it’s a bad window to do so but they’re finally learning about optics. Why spend money on a team thats out of most of the comps they’re in when the prior year when we were in comps and didn’t spend? The comparison would obviously upset particular set of the fan base. Plus it would admit they didn’t get the summer transfer campaign right, especially after making declarations that they had the squad they wanted and which was poised to win. And finally, if they are indeed looking for a new coach then just better to wait when the season ends.

  3. 3 comments on this I think.

    1. As others have said, if Pioli is not going to be there next season. No point rushing in to buy players in the Winter transfer window, which is never a good idea.

    2. I think Management are looking at it and wondering if we really need a new CB at this time. Gabbia is doing fine, we currently have Kjear and Hernandez if we need to and the Young kids like Simic has proven to be more than Capable and we have other centre backs coming back soon. So we should be fine.

    3. We are currently on an island in 3rd place. We probably won’t catch Inter / Juventus and the teams below us are not really putting any kind of run together for us to be concerned for now. I think it might have given Management the idea that fine as we are.. Hence there was no pressing need for a CB or Striker for that Matter and they can take their time.
And what makes us think that if we got new players they won’t get injured, when we don’t seem to have an idea what is going on in Piolis’ fitness camp.

  4. I’m glad the club didn’t listen to him. He already has Simic and Barteshagi for cover. Tomori, Kalulu and Thiaw are due back this month. There was no need to bring in another defender. Pioli has wasted enough money.

  5. Management already gave all the players he wanted to fit his state-of-the-art idea last summer. But the result is just not there. Can’t say that we’re better off this season altho it’s not over yet. So why should they keep giving all he wants?

Moreover with the new coach issue looming around. It’s better to save some budget (if we really have one) for the next regime.
