CM: Why Pioli might find Reijnders more functional than Tonali

By Euan Burns -

It is becoming more and more likely that AC Milan will be adding Tijjani Reijnders to the squad in the coming weeks and there is a chance he will give Stefano Pioli something that Sandro Tonali could not.

As has been hypothesised by Calciomercato.com, Reijnders is much more of an all-round midfielder than Tonali, who was sold earlier in the week to Newcastle.

The Dutchman has agreed on terms with Milan already and now the club are in talks with AZ Alkmaar to get the deal over the line so that he can join Ruben Loftus-Cheek as a new midfielder at Milan.

A Europa Conference League semi-final showed the functionality of Reijnders as he ranked top in the match for scoring chances created, key passes, and balls recovered. It shows he can aid the attack whilst also breaking up the opposition attacks, whilst Tonali was more focused on his running and tackling.

  1. The point is non existent. We are talking about Tonali that was 1st in chances created last season, 2nd in number of assists. More big chances created in CL than Kevin de Bruyne. I mean Tonali maybe wasn’t De Bruyne going forward but….What? 😀

  2. Pioli found Krunic more functional than Pretty much everyone at pretty much every position possible. The only reason Pioli loses sleep at night is because he cant play Krunic as a GK. His judgement aint very sound on ANY player.

  3. Pioli doesn’t have a say when it comes to getting players for the team. It’s sad. Even he, cannot say how the midfield will be next season. He only works with what they give him. Top coaches ask for certain players, and their clubs go all out to get them the players, not Pioli. Today, they are talking about this player, tomorrow, they go and get someone else.
