CM: Real Madrid striker had agreed to deputy role at Milan – why the deal broke down

By Isak Möller -

Luka Jovic has been linked with Milan for many months now. The Serbian striker, however, is set to remain at Real Madrid despite the exit rumours. Meanwhile, there is a background on the Rossoneri’s interest.

According to Calciomercato.com, Jovic was on Milan’s list before a very clear change of course was established. They decided not to proceed with their interest as the 22-year-old needs playing time, not to act as Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s deputy.

However, the striker himself had given Milan an opening in the event of Europa League qualification, willing to act as the deputy if so. Everything changed, though, when Roma signed Borja Mayoral from Real Madrid.

The Spanish side then decided to keep Jovic as the deputy for Karim Benzema, taking him off the market. Then again, the Rossoneri didn’t seem to keen on the signing even if the player gave his ok for the move.
