CM: Why Milan dropped pursuit of left-back despite Sassuolo’s willingness

By Isak Möller -

Rogerio is officially a new Wolfsburg player but the path to the German club wasn’t obvious, with several clubs interested including AC Milan. However, the Rossoneri never got far in the negotiations.

Fode Ballo-Toure is expected to leave Milan this summer, even though that is proving to be difficult, and thus the Rossoneri will need a new deputy left-back. One of the players they have been linked with is Rogerio who, however, has signed for Wolfsburg.

As reported by Calciomercato.com, several clubs were interested in the Brazilian and Milan were one of them. Sassuolo even expressed a willingness to sell the 25-year-old either to Milan or Lazio, knowing that some youngsters could be included as counterparts.

However, neither of these two clubs wanted to satisfy the €8m demand, not even with the inclusion of counterparts. Sassuolo then decided to accelerate the talks with Wolfsburg and the parties eventually reached an agreement at €6m plus an additional €2m in bonuses.

By the looks of it, Milan are still focused on Basel’s Riccardo Calafiori for the left-back position.

  1. Sassuolo is willing to Milan at 8mil plus counter part, but sold to Wolfsburg at 6mil. Sassuolo always want Milan to over pay. I really dislike this club.

    1. Uh I think you misunderstand.

“However, neither of these two clubs wanted to satisfy the €8m demand, not even with the inclusion of counterparts” mean we didnt want to pay them 8m, even if a counterpart is inserted to reduce the price. So let’s say that, Zeroli worth 3m, then we need to pay 5m + Zeroli (so we meet the 8m valuation)

Also Wolfsburg will pay 6m +2m adds on for a total of 8m deal, so it’s really their valuation – but we refused to pay it. I think we dont want to pay too much for Theo back up, I imagine Furlani decided around 4-5m max for it. End of story.
