Olivier Giroud

CorSera: Milan will initiate renewal talks with Giroud in the coming weeks

Olivier Giroud was the hero for AC Milan at the weekend, making a crucial save against Genoa after Mike Maignan was sent off. A contract renewal is now on the cards for the Frenchman, a report claims.

The renewal is not the result of his goalkeeping at the weekend, but that action still highlighted his importance for this group. At 37 years old, he’s by far the most experienced and has taken over the responsibilities of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

As reported by today’s edition of Corriere della Sera (via SempreMilan.it), Milan will begin the renewal talks in the coming weeks. The idea is to lock him down until the summer of 2025, with the current deal expiring next year.

Giroud currently earns €3.5m per year and it’s possible that it could be slightly lowered, perhaps to around €2-2.5m. In any case, Milan are keen on keeping the veteran for next season, even if a new striker should also arrive in the summer (read here).

  1. If milan can get a Scudetto this season then that should be it for giroud.
It will be the best possible farewell for him.
As much as i love him and feel gratitude to him, i don’t think milan should continue
    with him beyond this season.
This season supposed to be the transition for a new striker to replace giroud.
Maybe in january milan can get a new striker.
Clearly giroud can’t be the starter all the time and jovic is just not what milan need.
Milan should start with okafor from now on at the very least.

    1. I agree completely.
This season i hoped our striker roster would be
      1. Mr. X
      2. Colombo
      3. Giroud

Unfortunately we did’nt get a proven striker.

      Next season should be
      1. Mr. X
      2. Colombo
With Okafor also capable of playing LW and Striker

Thank you Olivier, glad your still here, just don’t overstay.

    1. Last time ac milan won a cl final this was the ages of all the 14 players fielded in the final.

but sure lets field some kids because you are tired of experienced players,

        1. Vero My intention wasnt to imply that we should field such an old team but experience is nevertheless still paramount and always has been and always will be to some extent.

          1. Of course experience is very important. However there comes a point in every players career when they are no longer capable of competing at the highest level. For defenders that’s usually a higher age than attackers. Every player is unique though.

Giroud is with us for the season and I’m sure he will contribute, but his impact is declining steadily, which is understandable he is 37!
I hope Jovic and Okafor will play more and more.

Next season we ought to have a new no. 9 and hopefully Colombo. Keeping Giroud on at 38 would seem unwise

          2. SJF, His contribution this season in outcome is actually better % wise than last year but i get the gist of what you are saying that he shouldnt be counted on for the longer run but he can still be a good squad player for us for another year. We should nevertheless get a marquee signing for the striker position but that also depends on giroud himself if will accept a more reduced role than currently.

  2. No need to hold Oli back from the inevitable MLS move. I’m sure Furlani & Co see the gaps and will try to fill them. I’d let him go this summer, personally.

But I think at most they will keep him for another season, but HOPEFULLY it’s with a dramatically reduced work load because we have signed a better CF (among other needs).
