CorSera: Ten games at ten different times – the proposal for new Serie A schedule

By Isak Möller -

Serie A could change the usual schedule for next season, eliminating simultaneous matches as a part of their agreement with DAZN. On Monday, the club will have a vote for the proposal and see what the outcome is.

According to Corriere Della Sera, it’s an idea that was born after DAZN secured the TV rights to the league in Italy. If all the ten games have a separate slot, then it would prevent the network from being slowed down due to all the traffic.

The slots would be spread over the week, except the Monday-night slot at 8.45. The idea is to have four games on Saturday (2.30 pm, 4.30 pm, 6.30 pm and 8.45 pm) and five matches games on Sunday (12.30 pm, 2.30 pm, 4.30 pm, 6.30 pm and 8.45 pm).

Lega Serie A are keen on improving the overall quality of the league and believe that this could be a good solution for many reasons. Not just the TV rights, but also for sponsors and UCL teams would be able to play on Saturday.

  1. This has been terrible in England, there’s no longer a ‘tradition’ of getting together to watch ‘the game’ at certain times – instead, football is just a constant, on all the time and never ending. Just like the Super League, more of something just makes it less special.
