AC Milan have put all of their faith in the hands of Como manager Cesc Fabregas, who is working on convincing Malick Thiaw to accept their contract offer.

Last season was filled with ups and downs for Thiaw, resulting in Matteo Gabbia and Strahinja Pavlovic being the preferred centre-backs towards the end. Amid the uncertainty over his qualities, and Milan’s financial situation, he has ended up on the mercato this summer.

Last week, Milan and Como reached an agreement for a transfer worth around €25m, with only the player left to convince. The latter has proved to be rather difficult, though, and the Rossoneri are now banking on Fabregas.

Fabregas refuses to give up

As reported by today’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanNews), Como certainly haven’t given up on signing Thiaw and Fabregas held new talks with him in recent days. Once again, the centre-back’s importance for the project was explained by the head coach.

The doubts remain for the player, but given the insistence of Fabregas and the contract offer worth €4m per year, a happy outcome isn’t impossible here. Not to mention that Milan are also pushing for the move, with €25m plus bonuses in it for them.

With that money, as the newspaper concludes, Milan would be able to shift focus to Parma’s Giovanni Leoni for the defence.

  1. Thiaw came on really cheap. No wonder they are trying to push him out for 25. Basically straight capital gains.
