CorSport: Predicted XIs for Milan vs. Inter – Pioli to rely on the usual starters

By Isak Möller -

The Derby della Madonnina will take place tomorrow evening and AC Milan’s number one goal will be to spoil the Scudetto party. Inter would officially claim the title with the win and this is something that the Rossoneri want to prevent.

A disappointing season went from bad to worse on Thursday as Milan were knocked out of the Europa League against Roma. The Giallorossi were comfortably better than the Rossoneri and it was most likely the final nail in the coffin for Stefano Pioli.

The manager has the opportunity to do something good before his exit, though, and that is preventing Inter from celebrating the Scudetto in the derby. According to today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (see photo below), Pioli will rely on the usual starters for the big game.

Predicted Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Calabria, Gabbia, Tomori, Theo; Bennacer, Reijnders; Pulisic, Loftus-Cheek, Leao; Giroud.

Predicted Inter XI (3-5-2): Sommer, Pavard, Acerbi, Bastoni; Darmian, Barella, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan, Dimarco; Thuram, Martinez.

14 points currently separate the two sides, with six games left to go including the derby, and this means that a draw would be enough to stop the Nerazzurri. However, it won’t be an easy task given the recent history in the fixture.

  1. Should start okafor as ST. Just to throw Inter of and Giroud isn’t in form anyways. I got a feeling he’d do more damage of the bench

    1. Geroud should be benched then use Okafor while pulisic should play attacking midfield then Loftus cheek should play bench

  2. Why does he keep picking out of form players?
    It is so frustrating!
If this is his team selection he should be sacked before kick off.

Play Adli for Bennacer, Okafor for Giroud and Chuk for RLC with Pulisic moving into 10.

  3. If Pioli plays this starting line up, then he’s a coward.

And he should be sacked immediately.

Let Abate finish the season to show his capabilities

    1. Abate wont finish the season because hes playing final in the Youth league… he cant lead 2 teams at the same time so they will probably just let him finish the season with the Primavera

  4. One of the biggest problems I’ve had with Pioli this season is the fact that the team selections haven’t been based on meritocracy…

Not that I trust CorSport, but this lineup isn’t outside of what Pioli would do.

The question is: what has Pioli seen out of Giroud, RLC and Bennacer to want to hand them starts, AGAIN?

He keeps talking about “a change is needed” yet he fields the same underperforming players, when players in form are on the bench again…

You’re as good as gone in the summer, Pioli. No pressure. Get outside of the square Peg you’ve been jailed in and do something unexpected…

Start Okafor, start Chuk, drop Benny and RLC… This isn’t a winnable fixture for Pioli with his “normal” tactics, but maybe we can salvage a draw and restore SOME pride against Inter who have had us on a leash for over a year…

    Motion creates motion…. come on.
