Photo: Data shows why Renato Sanches might not be Milan’s Kessie replacement

By Isak Möller -

In the last few months, Renato Sanches has been heavily linked with a move to AC Milan after a January move allegedly broke down. Some have described him as Franck Kessie’s replacement, but he might not be that.

Looking at the stats provided by Smarterscout, as cited by @CoachKuhaugeACM on Twitter, it seems pretty clear that Kessie and Sanches are very different players. Instead, Sandro Tonali appears to be more appropriate to take on that role.

Two days ago, L’Équipe (via GFFN) reported that Sanches is expected to join Milan at the end of the season. He could be part of a deal that also could see Sven Botman move to the Rossoneri, willing to invest this summer.

  1. Sign KAMARA to replace Kessie – KAMARA is direct replacement for Kessie….and he’s FREE. It’s fine if we want to sign Sanches as well – but we should not pass up the opportunity to sign Kamara on a free.

    1. Kamara will have no transfer fee but he’s very sought after and whoever he goes to will have to pay a LOT. Expect him to go to a team in England with a lot of money.

  2. Ya don’t say. I’ve been saying this for quite some time now they’re not the same player. To get a Kessie type player is hard. Just pay the man. Look at that ball retention stat. U can’t get better than that in Europe plus tackling and link up play

  3. Kessies Ball retention, link up and passes towards goal tell you everything, he gets the ball and his link up is not a pass towards goal, i.e he passes it back towards the defence. Anyone watching Milan can see that all Kessie has done this season is get the ball then instantly pass it back to defenders for them to do something with it, he is padding his stats with the “easy” option and has done so all season, he is most definitely not worth the money he is asking for or the commission his agent is asking for.

    1. That’s a fairly essential thing, especially in a young team – it allows tempo to be dictated and he’s been critical in the ability to protect games when he’s played. Excellent ball winning and intelligent contribution to the press too. His attacking contributions may not blow anyone away, but there’s a reason Barca or someone will pay a lot of money for him.

  4. Tonali idol are Gattuso. That why we don’t need kessie replacement because tonali can do that job but we still need box to box player that can cover midfield and Linked behind to front , player with similar type of Kante in chelsea

  5. Just let him go and feel it positive or negative like his friend DONARUMMA Frank kessie costs us THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE EXIT let him go go go kessie THANK YOU

  6. I will say NOOO to Sanchez,, he is always injured and he won’t fit in Milan to be honest, they must look for someone better than that
