CM: De Ketelaere hoping to hurt Bologna again – what filters regarding Leeds rumours

By Oliver Fisher -

It was back on August 27 when AC Milan beat Bologna 2-0 at San Siro in what was Charles De Ketelaere’s best performance since arriving, and tomorrow he should start against the same opponents.

As Calciomercato.com recall, that game last August against the Rossoblu showed all of the Belgian’s qualities as he got his only goal contribution of the season so far, setting up Rafael Leao.

However, since then things have become difficult for De Ketelaere who has played just 875 minutes in the league since, having lost his place in the starting line-up. However, against Thiago Motta’s Bologna tomorrow at 15:00 CEST he should get his first start since the loss at Fiorentina.

De Ketelaere should be able to count on the help of three compatriots as part of mass turnover: Aster Vranckx in midfield plus Divock Origi and Alexis Saelemaekers in attack, with the former Club Brugge man expected to be the No.10.

It goes without saying that the 22-year-old’s first season at Milan will not go down in the annals and there is a lot of responsibility on the part of the player to justify the investment, but what filters from the management is that they remain convinced he will become a great player with the Rossoneri.

There has been some talk in England regarding a new attempt from Leeds United – who battled hard with Milan to sign him last summer – but the Diavolo’s only intention is to wait for him to explode, which might happen in the second season as it did with Leao and Tonali.

  1. Honestly we have other priorities right now.
It may be best to let him leave, if not on a permanent basis then a loan.

Milan are finally moving towards a 3 man midfield which is what most top teams use and it’s what is needed for balance.

Our priorities are a RW and a striker

After that, a DM and a back up LB.

With how the team is evolving, I just don’t see where he fits in, regardless of form

  2. He must be given time. He’s still so young; talent doesn’t just disappear into the ether, and Serie A is a notoriously difficult league in which to show your best. Pioli needs to have faith; if the first half of the 2023 / 2024 season is no better, then send him out on loan somewhere at Christmas.

  3. fak it, put him on RW, then adli on AMC
knowing CDK, he would play a bit deeper on amr, which is good with Adli playing style that will open then left side alot

  4. Honestly I’ve struggled to grasp why he isn’t being trained as a false nine. He seems to possess the qualities necessary to bring down long passes from the defense, he has the skill to hold the ball up and with consistent playing time he’ll get a feel for how the team moves around him. Although he’s been disappointing we all must remember no player to date has had success as a #10 in Pioli’s system. At what point do we talk about Pioli’s tactics being terrible for bringing out the quality of the squad?
