By Oliver Fisher -

Reported AC Milan target will not be moving clubs this summer and instead will sign a new deal to stay at Napoli, a journalist claimed.

Mertens is out of contract at the end of the season and with no signs of an imminent renewal, a number of clubs continue to be linked with the 33-year-old, who has 121 goals for Napoli in all competitions.

A shock report came from Spain claiming that Milan were in advanced talks with the entourage of Mertens and an announcement was imminent, while by La Stampa confirmed their belief that the Rossoneri are in talks with the Belgium international.

Inter and Chelsea were also strongly linked, however Gianluca Di Marzio has now confirmed that Mertens will in fact be staying put and will sign a renewal with Napoli.

Mertens will sign a new two-year deal with the Partenopei for €4.5million plus €3m signing bonuses.
