Di Marzio: Milan have ‘important budget’ for top class defensive signing

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have set aside an ‘important budget’ in order to sign a new central defender this summer, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

It is seemingly no secret that Ricky Massara, Paolo Maldini and the rest of the Rossoneri leadership want to give new head coach Marco Giampaolo a top quality defender to help him implement his preferred 4-3-1-2 system.

Links with a number of names have followed: most recently Dejan Lovren, who Milan have apparently turned back to following the snub from Ozan Kabak, who chose to join Schalke.

However, any hopes Milanisti have of seeing an elite centre-half partnering Alessio Romagnoli next season were given a boost by Di Marzio on Thursday night.

The journalist claimed that Milan have ‘an important budget to spend’ – and specifically mentioned that a defender is ‘a priority’.

The centre of midfield also needs addressing, with reports claiming that Ismail Bennacer is closing in on a move to San Siro.
