Romain Faivre was heavily linked with AC Milan this summer and he almost ended up joining the club. A few days ago, the winger spoke about the Rossoneri and given the response to this, he has talked again.
In the debated interview with Gazzetta Dello Sport, which you can read here, the Brest winger spoke almost as if the transfer to Milan was a done deal. Of course, that is not the case and some eyebrows were raised.
Faivre was forced to clarify his words last night, speaking to French outlet Ouest France. He admitted that the interview made a lot of noise but also played down the words in terms of transfer to Milan.
“I can understand that it made a lot of noise. But my goal was to talk, to introduce myself, to talk about my performances, my qualities and my faults. Nothing else. Which player in the Stade Brestois team would not be flattered by the interest of AC Milan? It’s logic. I have had contact with the club but I’m not obsessed with Milan.
“I made it clear that in football I have high goals and ambitions. I have to do it step by step and that is why I’m more surrounded: I have a physical trainer, a mental trainer, a nutritionist. It’s a lot that, potentially, can prepare me to take a step forward before going to another club.
“If I go to another club, whether it’s AC Milan or other, or even if I stay at Stade Brestois – because it’s good for me – I’m just preparing to be above the others. I pay attention to my physique, my diet, my sleep. I add all these little details that may make me go to a team like AC Milan,” he concluded.
In the summer, a move was indeed very close for Faivre. A private jet was ready for Linate Airport but in the end, the Rossoneri failed to reach an agreement with Brest on the transfer fee.
