Fonseca double sessions

CM: The final chance in the toughest exam – Fonseca put to the test in Atalanta clash

There are not many AC Milan fans who still believe that the Scudetto is realistic, though a few may change their mind with a win over Atalanta tonight.

As Calciomercato.com recall, Paulo Fonseca spoke very highly of the Atalanta model and their head coach Gian Piero Gasperini in his pre-match press conference, and with good reason.

On May 22nd at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin, La Dea raised the Europa League trophy to the sky against a team – Bayer Leverkusen – that had not lost all season. Tonight, they come into the game having won eight in a row.

Milan have not hidden their desire to win the Scudetto, while Atalanta are a team that are actually a serious candidate rather than it being a dream. They are one point off top spot, and there are nine points between the Rossoneri and the Bergamo club.

The most widespread feeling on the eve of this match is that the match has a higher value for Milan. In the event of a defeat, Milan would slip to -12 from Atalanta and possibly to -13 from Napoli, fully removing possibility of winning the title and the second star.

At the moment winning the league appears to be an exclusive belief of Fonseca, so he is called upon to rekindle the enthusiasm of the fans.

The Portuguese coach must send his side out with a mature, intense, tenacious and prepared performance. This really is the final call, in perhaps the hardest exam.

  1. The final call, for what, Oliver? Do you actually believe that if we lose to Atalanta, Fonseca will be fired? We’re stuck with him until the end of the current season. Our management will not fire him. Forget about it.

Now, if we don’t qualify for the next Champions League in the top 4 (or top 5 if Serie A again earns a fifth spot), THEN and only then, our management will fire him, because that will affect the financial bottom line, which is the only thing that will motivate them to act.

The final call for the Scudetto? That ship has sailed. We will not be catching up to a team coached by Conte that has an 11 point lead. It has never happened in the history of Serie A, that a team coached by Conte with this much lead, then got caught by other teams.
