Lombardy president admits Milan ‘need’ a new stadium and have a ‘good’ project

AC Milan are currently working on building a new stadium in the La Maura, having more or less ditched the San Siro project, and progress has been made. The Lombardy president Attilio Fontana has shared his thoughts again.

Fontana, whom Gerry Cardinale has met twice in recent weeks, is the president of Lombardy and could play an important role in the whole project. In fact, his and the Milan mayor’s approval could help speed up the process significantly.

Speaking at a recent event, as cited by SempreMilan.it, Fontana was asked about the stadium project and expressed his support for the project. He admitted that Milan need a new stadium to develop and keep up with the rest of the big clubs in Europe.

“I think the important thing is that decisions are made. I said it from the start: the teams in Milan need to have state-of-the-art stadiums because to maintain a certain level, economic contribution is also needed.

“I listened to the current owner of Milan, who shared with me the idea he would like to create. The idea seems good to me, let’s look into it and then whoever has to decide will decide,” he stated.

Fonana’s support is a good sign for Cardinale and once the preliminary plan has been presented, we will have a better idea of the council’s stance. It will be tough no matter what, but Cardinale is prepared for that.
