FootMercato: Chelsea-owned midfielder could return to Milan – contacts initiated

By Isak Möller -

Milan are looking for a midfielder on the market, having sent Soualiho Meite back to Torino, and a familiar name has ended up on their radar. A report claims that Tiemoue Bakayoko could make a return to the club.

Bakayoko spent the 2018/19 season on loan at Milan and impressed with his performances, earning the appreciation of the fans. However, due to Chelsea’s high demands, he wasn’t redeemed by the club and the story ended there.

According to Santi’ FM of FootMercato, though, the Rossoneri still like the midfielder a lot and have initiated contacts with his agent. In other words, they could rival Atletico Madrid in the race for Bakayoko’s signature.

His contract with Chelsea will expire in the summer of 2022 and the price tag could thus perhaps be reasonable. That being said, we will have to wait and see if confirmations will arrive from Italian media as well.

  1. Get Kamara instead of bakayoko…

Are we becoming a team of players nobody wants again?? I liked him but for the $$ Chelsea will ask for him there are better players for similar price (20m) with more upside (Kamara) out there

  2. I am AC Milan and Chelsea fan.. I watch almost whole their match l, and I can see that There is notting special about bakayoko..! He is just a man who can play football, no special talent.. Just notting..!

  3. Bakayoko very very decent, already knows the league, can also be a starter.
I really liked him, he has good strength, I mean instead of Meite, we can get Bakayoko for 15m.
Imagine if Bennacer’s form doesn’t improve and we have both Kessie and Baka in the middle, that’s enough muscle for any team in Seria A.

  4. @Johnthebaptist you read my mind . We need this guy asap cos it will be a reinforcement to our midfield and more so for depth taking into consideration next year Afcon which will involve our Presidente Kessie and Benna. He knows more about the league which should play as an advantage, strong, physically fit and gat so much energy.

  5. Is he an upgrade to Meite? Absolutely.

Remember in January we would most probably lose both Kessie and Bennacer to Africa Cup, so presumably we would have to pair Tonali and one new guy. Bakayoko might not have set the world on fire, but he knows Milan and he is decent enough. If there’s a right formula to this, and he’s willing to bide his time in the bench, I’d say why not.

  6. No to bakayoko, Milan is not a waist bin or a laboratory were below average players are to be tested,If he had performed well at Lazio they would have brought him…

    1. I think he’s been unlucky,
First he was on loan at Ac Milan when Gattuso was coach, he performed well, but we couldn’t redeem him because Gattuso stepped down as Ac milan coach, when Gattuso got the Napoli job, he signed Bakayoko on loan again, now Napoli have sacked Gattuso, rumors still has it now that Gattuso still wants the player in Lazio after taking over as coach.
I believe if Gattuso had stayed longer in either Milan or Napoli, then he would have been signed permanently.
