Furlani explains why Milan have to move away from San Siro

With AC Milan entering a crucial phase in the future of their home, CEO Giorgio Furlani has offered his thoughts regarding his preferences for the situation.

Discussions regarding the future of San Siro have gone on for years now. However, this year has been critical for the discussion, and there are now feasible plans to either move away from the stadium or continue there.

In the case of staying at San Siro, it is clear that the iconic stadium requires substantial renovation. However, there have been doubts about the ability to do this without substantial revenue losses.

Recently, an Italian giant in the infrastructure industry, Webuild, offered themselves for the project, stating that they were able to satisfy the renovation requests in a way that fulfilled the needs of the stadium, and both the Rossoneri and Inter – who have been reluctant to renovate the stadium due to concerns regarding revenue losses.

The alternative, then, is the San Donato project, which week on week is becoming a more likely option, especially after the ground purchased the land required in recent weeks and submitted plans for the stadium.

Furlani spoke to ANSA, regarding his thoughts on the project, and his comments have been relayed by Football Italia.

“Looking to the future, Milan’s journey involves the continuation of our international expansion project in the Middle East and America, as well as our ambitious project for a new stadium in San Donato. Due to its age and limitations, our current stadium no longer meets the necessary standard to offer an optimal level of experience for the fans.”
