Gabbia expecting a ‘difficult’ challenge against Fiorentina but believes the break helped

By Oliver Fisher -

Matteo Gabbia is expecting a ‘difficult’ game against Fiorentina, but believes that AC Milan used the international break in the best way possible.

Milan will be looking to earn their sixth consecutive victory in all competitions on Saturday night at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, but it will be a tough test they have to face without the suspended Theo Hernandez.

The game is expected to be an emotional one. Before La Viola’s game against Atalanta, Fiorentina’s General Manager Joe Barone fell ill and sadly passed away on March 19, and he will be commemorated before the game.

Pioli has chosen a defensive quartet of Davide Calabria, Malick Thiaw, Fikayo Tomori and Alessandro Florenzi in front of Mike Maignan, with Theo serving a one-game suspension.

Gabbia spoke during an interview with Milan TV that aired just before kick-off, and his comments were relayed by MilanNews.

“There was the break, but we tried to exploit it in the best possible way, doing everything the coach asked of us,” he said.

“There is great desire to start again from where we left off. Let’s hope that tonight will be a good evening for us. I expect a difficult match, they have excellent individuality and are very well coached.”
