Gabbia stretchered off after collision but reassures fans: “I’m fine”

There was a moment of panic during the game between Stade Rennais and Villarreal in the Europa League last night as Matteo Gabbia was stretchered off.

The centre-back lost consciousness following an accidental knee from Raul Albiol, but he the came around and was transported off the pitch. Villarreal would go on to win the game 3-2 and thus secure top spot in their group as well.

After the game, Gabbia gave an update on his Instagram story and reassured everyone that he is very much ok: “Thanks everyone for the messages!!! I’m fine. Ah… first in the group.”

It was recently reported by Fabrizio Romano that Milan are advancing in talks to bring Gabbia back to the club in January from Villarreal, where he is meant to be on a season-long loan deal, and he added that the 24-year-old is ‘open’ to the idea of returning.

Milan have only one fit senior centre-back at the moment with Simon Kjaer, Pierre Kalulu, Malick Thiaw and Marco Pellegrino all out.
