GdS: Cardinale’s first Milan derby already ‘decisive’ – what it means

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan will face Inter in the Derby della Madonnina this evening and it will be the first one under the ownership of Gerry Cardinale. It’s a special game for the history of the club, in other words.

The derby will always be a special match but the emotions it can bring out were really highlighted last season, when the Scudetto battle between the two continued until the final game of the season.

As highlighted by Gazzetta Dello Sport (via MilanNews), the second derby of last season truly marked a turning point in the Scudetto race. Olivier Giroud turned the game around himself and Inter were caught off guard, despite being the better side that night.

We’re only at the 5th round but given the packed schedule, the teams need momentum and this is a game that can provide it. In addition, both Milan and Inter have received some criticism lately and that’s why Cardinale’s first derby is already ‘decisive’.
