GdS: An explanation for the mystery behind Kjaer’s long absence

By Oliver Fisher -

Simon Kjaer has been unavailable for some time now and the lack of concrete updates regarding his condition has aroused a bit of a mystery among fans.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo below) report that Kjaer’s problems started before Napoli-Milan due to a muscle strain. Subsequent tests revealed a mild lesion, which clinically healed about 20 days later, which is when he was expected to return.

Once the recovery work started to ramp up, however, the Dane’s muscle did not respond as well as planned. Essentially, Kjaer continued with individual work because he was not yet ready to increase the workload and join the rest of the squad.

The picture could change from one day to the next, because the injury is behind him and all that is needed is the green light from the veteran defender. For this very reason, a glimmer of hope still remains that he could play on Saturday evening against Frosinone.

In the meantime, Primavera defender Jan-Carlo Simic is warming up his engines and the most likely scenario is that he gets his first Serie A start.

  1. As someone who is Kjaer’s age I can confirm the body doesn’t quite heal like it used to. I twisted my knee in beer league game in September and haven’t been able to take the field since…

  2. He’s old and not recovering from injuries as fast as a younger player.
He’s also slow slow slow, even when healthy
Milan should have moved on from him this last summer
