GdS: Hauge’s super sub status confirmed by numbers – only game changer for Milan

By Isak Möller -

Jens Petter Hauge has had a tough debut season with Milan after what was a very promising start. Struggling to get playing time, the Norwegian youngster hasn’t been able to showcase his qualities.

However, against Sampdoria around two weeks ago, the former Bodo/Glimt man came off the bench and salvaged a crucial draw for the Rossoneri. He did so with intelligent play and once again made a difference off the bench.

And it wasn’t the first time Hauge has done so this season, as was highlighted by Gazzetta Dello Sport (via MilanNews) this morning. Although Stefano Pioli has made some good subs this season, it has only got him four goals directly.

Hauge has scored 50% of them, more specifically 2, while the other two were scored by Rafael Leao and Samu Castillejo. Perhaps worryingly, this is just 7% of the total amount of goals the Rossoneri have scored this season (57).

On the other hand, while Milan could use a stronger bench with more quality, Hauge’s talent has once again been proved. Taking this stat into consideration, perhaps the left-winger should get the chance more times off the bench, or even from start.

  1. honestly. I would give him some matches ahead of Rebic. Rebic is good but sometimes fades away too easily. But due to Pioli’s stubbornness, Rebic knows however he performs he ain’t ever getting on the bench. Hauge definitely needs to be played and he’d be better than Rebic.

    1. Perhaps playing Rebic at RW could help? It wouldn’t be a new position for the Croatian.
      So basically – Ibra; Leao/Hauge, Hakan/Brahim, Salamakers/Rebic; Bennacer/Tonali, Kessie/Miete; Theo/Dalot, Romagnoli/Tomori, Kjaer/Tomori, Calabria/Kalulu; Donnarumma
